Randy Everton
B.S. - Computer Science
Profession:
Engineering Technician - Promontory, UT

Before his experience with Kennedy-Western University, Electronic Technician Randy Everton was very busy working for ATK Thiokol, the world's leading developer and producer of solid rocket motors used in the aerospace industry. "I did a lot of computer programming in that job and I knew that if I was going to improve those programming skills," he says, "I have to find a way to get back to college."
As his support of various national aerospace programs demanded more and more time, Randy knew the traditional approach to getting a degree in computer science wasn't going to work for him, even though there was a university nearby. "Time was important," he recalls. "I got credit for courses I had already taken and additional credit was given for my years of solid work experience in programming. Those credits translated to reducing the amount of time I needed to spend to get my bachelor's degree." He also appreciated the KWU approach of allowing students take the specific courses that will relate best to their needs on their job.
Mark Fung-A-Fat
Ph.D. - Computer Science
Previous Degrees:
M.S. - Kutztown University, PA
B.S. - College Misericordia, PA
Profession:
Director of Software Development - Boston, MA

Dr. Mark Fung-A-Fat manages a staff of 16 software developers and project managers for the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) & the New England Journal of Medicine, one of the largest medical societies in the country. The society also publishes The New England Journal of Medicine, one of the most well respected, peer-reviewed professional journals in medicine. His department is driven by a budget of over $2 million per year that Mark allocates for developing, providing and maintaining software and database storage and retrieval.
A native of the Republic of Guyana, an English-speaking country on the northern coast of South America between Venezuela and Brazil, Mark has worked in progressively more challenging and responsible computer technology positions since 1991. "I've always been in the computer science field," says Mark. "But in order for me to get a Doctorate, and still maintain my fulltime job at MMS, I chose Kennedy-Western's distance learning approach. Quality was not an issue. A Ph.D. professor at a traditional university near me is a Kennedy-Western faculty member and he vouched for the high quality of the courses that I would encounter in the program. Now that I have completed the program, I found that the courses were exactly as he said they would be."
Dan Ma
Ph.D. - Computer Science
Previous Degrees:
M.S. - George Mason University, VA
M.S. - National University of Defense Technology, China
B.S. - National University of Defense Technology, China
Profession:
Chief Information Officer - Greensboro, NC

Software developer Dan Ma was already satisfied with his career, but he longed for feeling the creative tension of getting himself back into what he calls the 'learning mode'. "I'm the type of person who likes to continually improve myself and that takes tackling further education and stretching to learn more and more and achieve a higher academic degree," he says.
Due to his busy work schedule and active personal life, Dan needed a program that would allow him to set his own study time and his learning needed to be self-paced so he could speed up and slow down when his other responsibilities would allow it. He found the Kennedy-Western program to suit his needs and he was impressed with the solid academic computer science courses that he could choose to complete.
